Hydrogen electric-powered rally racing championship Extreme E and its partner EY have reported carbon neutral status for Season 2.
The second season’s Sustainability Report stated that 9,045 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) was emitted (1808.8 tCO2e per race), all offset through the purchase of Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) environmental certificates.
Extreme E’s final race of Season 2, the Uruguay Natural Energy X Prix, was the first major motorsports event fully supported by renewable energy. With 98% of Uruguay’s electricity generated from renewable sources, Extreme E could utilise additional power requirements with onsite solar generation and hydrogen fuel cells, delivering 100% renewable energy.
