Spain’s Exolum has begun testing the storage and transport of green hydrogen at a commercial scale on existing natural gas infrastructure in the UK.
Located at the Port of Immingham, the pilot project has been supported by the UK government with £505,000 ($647,000). It will use liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) to transport and store the fuel in liquid form.
H2 View understands that 400 metres of LOHC containing 20 tonnes of hydrogen will be transported through a 1.5km pipeline. The use of LOHC is expected to overcome current challenges in the hydrogen supply chain.
