Euroports backs Hydnum’s green steel export initiative

Hydnum Steel and Euroports are aiming to create an integrated logistics system in Europe to optimise the supply of green steel produced in Spain.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies will work closely on the design and implementation of an “efficient and sustainable” logistics network, focusing on the transportation, storage and distribution of Hydnum’s hydrogen-based steel.

Produced at its Puertollano plant in Spain, the steel will gain access to new markets and customers, which is expected to be done through a robust and structured logistics network, using Europort’s expertise in port management and logistics services.

By optimising the supply chain, the two firms expect to “reduce time and costs in the transportation and handling of steel products from the production plant to the final customer.”

Hydnum’s Spanish plant is set to begin its initial works next year, with up to 1.5 million tonnes of rolled steel anticipated by 2026, before the capacity is increased to 2.6 million in 2030.

Through the MOU with Euroports, Hydnum Steel’s Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Fernando Pessanha, believes they will be able to offer customers “high-quality green steel products with maximum efficiency and sustainability.”

The CSO added, “The same concept applies to key strategic raw materials like ferrous scrap and iron ore. The experience and infrastructure of Euroports will be crucial in achieving these goals.”

Carlos Soleto, MED Business Development Manager of Euroports, said, “Our extensive experience in logistics and port operations will enable us to provide integrated solutions that enhance Hydnum Steel’s competitiveness in the European market.

“Together, we will drive innovation and sustainability in the steel supply chain.”
