Norway could soon be home to what is thought to be Europe’s first large-scale green ammonia project as part of a new effort to recognise hydrogen’s role in the green energy transition.
Yara International, Statkraft and Aker Horizons have joined forces on the project that will target green hydrogen and ammonia opportunities within shipping, agriculture and industrial applications.
It is thought this can be achieved through the electrification and decarbonisation of Yara’s ammonia plant in Porsgrunn, Norway.
The conversion is believed to be one of the largest climate initiatives in Norway’s industrial history, targeting annual carbon reductions equivalent to the emissions from more than 300,000 fossil fuel passenger cars.
