The European Commission has agreed to state aid approval for a €998m ($1.08bn) Dutch hydrogen production scheme, which is expected to support the construction of at least 200MW of electrolysis capacity.
The support will be awarded through a competitive bidding process which is expected to be finalised this year (2024). The tender will be open to projects with a capacity of at least 0.5MW.
H2 View understands that the Dutch Government will provide direct grants worth up to 80% of the upfront investment cost of projects, along with a variable premium over five to 10 years.
Applicants will have to prove compliance with EU criteria for the production of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs), as laid out in the delegated acts of renewable hydrogen.
