Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW), VNG, and JERA today (June 12) revealed plans to conduct a study into establishing an ammonia cracker at Rostock’s port in Germany to facilitate hydrogen imports.
Under a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the trio is considering conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the construction of an ammonia cracker demonstration plant for the production of hydrogen from ammonia.
It is hoped the project would allow for large quantities of renewable hydrogen as ammonia to be imported into Rostock from oversea regions where it would be converted back into hydrogen before being transported to German end-users.
