Enagás authorised to develop Spanish hydrogen network

Enagás will begin developing the Spanish section of a European green hydrogen corridor after it received preliminary approval from Spain’s government.

The H2Med project will include a hydrogen interconnection between Portugal and France which Enagás will oversee, along with the development of two associated hydrogen storage facilities.

Enagás was given the green light after the Council of Ministers approved the agreement, authorising the Spanish gas grid operator to exercise the functions of the European Projects of Common Interest (IPCEI) for hydrogen networks. They will construct, commission, operate, monitor and maintain the network.
