EH Group and NIM partner to explore hydrogen fuel cell technology for marine applications

EH Group and NIM have agreed to jointly develop hydrogen fuel cell technology tailored for use in the maritime industry.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Dutch and Swiss firms aim to adapt and standardise fuel cell systems that meet the operational and safety requirements of maritime vessels.

The partnership will leverage EH Group’s EH-Trace fuel cell technology and utilise NIM’s expertise in marine system integration to achieve the final product.

“The maritime sector is ripe for disruptive decarbonisation, which can only be met by joining strong technology solutions with deep sector experience and integration capabilities,” explained Mardit Matian, EH Group Founder.

“Partnering with NIM enables us to more effectively deploy marine fuel cell systems across a wide range of vessels.”

Marc Freriks, NIM’s Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), claimed that with EH Group, the company has found a “solid basis for the next step in sustainable energy transition by shipping.”

He added, “Combining EH Group’s EH-Trace hydrogen fuel cell system and NIM’s knowledge of system integration, we are ready to speed up the change in power management applications on board vessels.”

The partnership builds on EH Group’s significant milestone achieved in March, when its fuel cell system received Approval in Principle (AiP) from DNV, marking a key step in its development and validation process.
