Global energy company EDP has announced plans for a pilot hydrogen production and storage project at the Ribatejo Combined Cycle Plant in Portugal.
With support from the European Union, EDP will construct a 1MW electrolyser which will feature a storage capacity of 12 MWh, one of the largest of its kind in the country.
“Hydrogen is a clear alternative in implementing the new energy world. As leaders of the energy transition, we are continually evaluating and testing potential energy production alternatives,” said António Mexia, CEO at EDP.
The main goal of the project is to develop new power-to-X-power integrated solutions in combined-cycle thermal power plants and in dedicated hydrogen and ammonia-fired turbines.
