FuelCell Energy has been contracted by EDF Energy to use its 1MW solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) in a UK hydrogen and nuclear study.
The project will explore the viability of using hydrogen to decarbonise asphalt production, led by the Bay Hydrogen Hub consortium consisting of EDF, Heidelberg UK, the National Nuclear Laboratory, and Vulcan Burners.
FuelCell Energy’s SOEC electrolyser will be combined with nuclear generated heat and electricity to produce hydrogen in bulk at a lower cost than other hydrogen electrolysis technologies.
