easyJet has partnered with JetZero to develop a blended-wing aircraft that has the potential to be powered by hydrogen or sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs).
The European airline has agreed to share its knowledge of hydrogen propulsion systems and will work closely with the US-based firm’s Airline Working Group, to provide operational insights and expertise to assist in the development of the aircraft.
The jet has already been supported by $235m from the US Air Force, NASA, and the FAA, and its first aircraft is scheduled to enter service by 2030. The aircraft is anticipated to provide up to 50% less fuel burn and lower emissions compared to traditional designs.
