Topsoe has secured €94m ($102.6m) from the EU’s Innovation Fund for the construction of its first electrolyser factory in Herning, Denmark.
The solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) factory, initially expected to boast 500MW of capacity, is the “largest investment” in Topsoe’s history, as it looks to support hydrogen production and Power-to-X (PtX) projects.
With plans for the Herning site to become operational by 2024, its SOEC production capacity could scale beyond the initial 500MW in the future.
