Dunkirk’s steel industry to be decarbonised with hydrogen

Air Liquide and ArcelorMittal have joined forces to produce low-carbon steel in Dunkirk, France with the introduction of low-carbon hydrogen and carbon capture technologies.

The companies yesterday (17th March) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the project that will see the creation of new technologies for the major industrial basin.

Under the MoU, ArcelorMittal has said it will implement an innovative production unit that combines direct reduced iron and submerged arc furnace technologies, in dimensions never seen before.

Supporting the project, Air Liquide will supply low-carbon hydrogen and carbon capture technologies and share its unique expertise in the areas.
