DNV approves LOHC technology for hydrogen-powered vessel project

DNV has awarded approval in principle (AiP) for liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology that will be used to power a ship.

The AiP is for Hydrogenius LOHC Maritime’s release unit which will discharge hydrogen from the benzyl-toluene liquid organic carrier on demand on the ship for use in a fuel cell.

The LOHC power system includes an LOHC release unit coupled with a PEM fuel cell to provide electrical power for a ship’s auxiliary power or propulsion.
