Norway’s Pherousa has received an initial Approval in Principle (AiP) for its ammonia-powered Ultramax dry bulk carrier design.
Maritime classification societies DNV and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) each awarded an AiP, indicating that the design meets the necessary technical standards and safety requirements.
This approval enables Pherousa to advance the development and construction of its ammonia-powered Ultramax carrier vessels. The ships will feature an onboard ammonia cracker, allowing them to convert ammonia into hydrogen, which will then be used as fuel.
