Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Siemens Mobility today (23rd Nov) said they will test a newly developed hydrogen train and filling station in Tübingen, Germany, as part of a new partnership.
Under the agreement, a new hydrogen-powered train will be built by Siemens Mobility. Based on its Mireo Plus regional train, the two-car train will be equipped with a newly develop hydrogen drive, making it as powerful as its electrical counterpart.
DB has said it will refit one of its maintenance shops to serve the hydrogen-powered train.
In addition to the train, DB will also develop a new hydrogen fuelling station for the project. DB said the station will be able to refuel the train in the same amount of time as it takes a diesel-powered train to refuel.
