Hydrogen can play a critical role in transforming our energy system, particularly when it comes to energy intensive and hard to decarbonise industries and sectors.
Commercial road trucking, for example, needs energy solutions that enable long distances, unpredictable routes, high uptime requirements and high payloads. Hydrogen, having high energy density compared to batteries, can be especially suitable in these applications.
As with other parts of the emerging hydrogen economy, achieving a rapid and affordable shift in mobility requires coordination among public and private organisations at local, national and international levels to ensure that supply and demand for low-carbon hydrogen grow together and in sync with the necessary supporting infrastructure. The good news is, there’s progress in these areas and the pace is accelerating – but to build and maintain momentum, more will need to be done.
