The importance of the often-overlooked hydrogen midstream – covering transport and storage – was the focus of an engaging session at the Oman Green Hydrogen Summit.
The presentation was given by Ellen Ruholas, Head of New Energy Projects at Zenith Energy, which specialises in shipping and storage at Amsterdam.
“The midstream in the oil industry has taken over 50 years to develop, and get really efficient, and been fundamental in getting cheap energy to the world,” she said. “What we’re asking now is ‘we need to do the same for hydrogen’, yet does it exist?”
The Dutch government has put in over €1bn to repurpose an existing natural gas pipeline which will take 100% hydrogen, moving into Germany and Europe and creating a hydrogen backbone.
