Swiss manufacturer Stadler has signed a contract to supply the first ever hydrogen-powered train to run in the US, with an option to supply four more of the vehicles in the future.
Awarded by San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), the contract will see Stadler supply its FLIRT H2 hydrogen-powered train, which is planned to be introduced in 2024 as part of Redlands Passenger Rail Project.
“Implementing innovative solutions like this first-of-its-kind passenger train is an excellent example of how we are demonstrating our commitment to the next generation in San Bernardino Country,” said Darcy McNaboe, SBCTA President.
“The hydrogen FLIRT will help us address the commuting needs of today while preserving our environment for a better tomorrow.”
