The $10bn Namibian hydrogen megaproject with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy announced progress at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last week.
Following planning and pre-feasibility work by the Namibian Government and Hyphen, the project’s construction is planned to begin in January 2025, seeing the start of the road to cutting five-to-six million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The ambitious time-scale plans will see the commissioning of the first phase of the project by the end of 2026, with an estimated 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production per year once at full capacity.
