A Hydrogen Coalition, formed of 38 organisations ranging from environmental groups to industry, has offered a pact to the Cabinet of the Netherlands for the development of a Dutch hydrogen supply chain.
Hydrogen plays an essential role in making Dutch industry and its energy system more sustainable. With the recent increase of the European CO2 reduction target to 55%, hydrogen is becoming even more important as a sustainable alternative to fossil resources and fuels and as a buffer for the electricity grid.
The current Cabinet and the House of Representatives have already embraced the ambition for a Dutch hydrogen chain. However, the next cabinet faces the challenge of further future-proofing Dutch climate and energy policy.
On 15th, 16th, 17th March (2021), there will be national elections in the Netherlands, and the various election platforms show there is sufficient support among political parties for collective agreements in the coalition agreement on hydrogen in the energy transition.
