Clyde Hydrogen Systems will demonstrate its decoupled electrolyser technology for the first time outside the lab with its new partner PlusZero.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the University of Glasgow spinout will collaborate with the Scottish green hydrogen producer and distributor PlusZero to deploy one commercial demonstrator electrolyser that will be tested in operation for at least six months.
Additionally, the Hebrides-based firm can purchase an initial order of 10MW of electrolyser capacity from Clyde Hydrogen.
“We are thrilled to support their efforts in bringing this cutting-edge Scottish-produced solution to market,” stated David Amos, PlusZero Founder and Managing Director.
“Clyde Hydrogen’s ground-breaking electrolyser technology offers a transformative leap in cost efficiency and production flexibility.”
Clyde Hydrogen Systems has developed a new type of electrolysis that allows hydrogen and oxygen to be made in separate places and at different times and rates.
This reportedly improves safety, efficiency with renewables, high-pressure output without mechanical compression, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
In December, Clyde Hydrogen revealed that using its electrolysis process at its Glasgow-based lab, it produced hydrogen at pressures exceeding 100 bar.

The company also launched a new funding round to attract up to £5m of new investment and speed up the commercialisation of technology.
Clyde Hydrogen has said it’s on track to deliver a fully integrated pilot system by late 2025 and a commercial demonstrator in 2027.
CEO James Peck called PlusZero an “ideal partner” to deliver the commercial demonstration.
“Last month, we achieved a milestone technical breakthrough in our technology and to already sign our first commercial agreement is a testament to the game-changing potential of our pioneering technology and commercial traction we are already receiving.”
