A cement plant located in the Yorkshire Dales, England is now using a net-zero fuel mix using hydrogen technology to produce cement – and the company behind the operation believes it to be a world first.
Headed by HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Hanson UK, the effort has potential to save nearly 180,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) at the British Ribblesdale site if implemented throughout the whole kiln system.
The climate-neutral cement production was led by the British Mineral Products Association (MPA) and funded by the British Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
