Canadian AEM electrolyser player Cipher Neutron has received funding from Chilean-based Molymet to develop rhenium-based electrolysis technology.
Under the research collaboration, the pair will look to promote the use of rhenium as a catalyst in electrolysers. Having been shown to offer similar catalytic properties to platinum group metals (PGMs), it is hoped rhenium could offer a more cost-effective alternative.
Molymet, a molybdenum and rhenium processing firm, has also issued an additional purchase order for Cipher Neutron’s existing AEM systems to produce green hydrogen to support its industrial operations.
