China’s ‘first’ hydrogen-powered vessel, the ‘Three Gorges Hydrogen Boat No.1’, has made its maiden voyage from Yichang City.
Embarking on its trip from the Hubei Province, the boat is powered by a 500kW hydrogen fuel cell and boasts a maximum range of 200km, expected to reduce carbon emissions 343.67 tonnes.
The ship was jointly developed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China Yangtze Power Corporation and Jianglong Shipbuilding, with cooperation from Wuhan Changjiang Ship Design Institute and the Three Gorges Navigation Authority.
After delivery, the vessel will be used for transportation, patrol and emergency response in the Three Gorges reservoir area between the Three Gorges-Gezhouba dams.
