Chart Industries has been selected to supply a liquid hydrogen storage and delivery system for a green hydrogen long-duration energy storage system (BH-ESS) being developed by Energy Vault to provide back-up power in Calistoga, California, US.
Energy Vault’s BH-ESS 293MWh microgrid is set to serve local utility Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), providing back-up power during periods of serve weather to prevent wildfires, displacing the use of mobile diesel generators.
Chart will supply Energy Vault with liquid hydrogen bulk storage tanks and vaporisation equipment to store hydrogen on-site and feed into the fuel cell powered system. The 80,000 gallons of tanks will allow for at least 48 hours of supply without refuelling.
