Charbone Hydrogen Corporation and ABB will collaborate on the development of up to 15 green hydrogen production facilities in North America, beginning with its flagship project in Québec, Canada.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two energy companies have said they will jointly develop the projects over the next five years. Acting as a blueprint, the flagship Sorel-Tracy facility will be connected to the Hydro-Québec grid by the end of Q2 2025, using hydroelectricity to power two electrolysers.
In Phase 1 of the Sorel-Tracy project, Charbone expects to produce approximately 400kg of hydrogen. While details are thin and the size of future projects hasn’t been confirmed, they could follow a similar scale.
