A Cemvita subsidiary has partnered with oil and gas services firm ChampionX to carry out field trials for a technology that uses microorganisms to extract hydrogen from depleted oil reservoirs.
Houston-based Gold H2 said its subsurface microbiology solutions use the microorganisms to enable in-situ hydrogen production from depleted or uneconomical oil reservoirs, which it calls “Gold Hydrogen™.”
The production technology uses biological processes to convert left over hydrocarbons from subsurface wells into usable hydrogen while capturing and storing CO2.
