Hydrogen and nitrogen product manufacturer CF Industries will develop a green ammonia project at its Donaldsonville Nitrogen Complex, to produce approximately 20,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year.
Last week, the company said it will install a state-of-the-art electrolysis system at the location to generate carbon-free hydrogen from water that will then be supplied to an existing plant to produce green ammonia.
In addition to the ammonia project, the company will also develop CCS and other carbon abatement projects across its production facilities to ensure the production of low-carbon ammonia.
The announcement is part of the company’s commitment to support a global hydrogen and clean fuel economy, which it made last week along with several other goals, such as a goal to produce approximately 3.5 million tonnes of low-carbon ammonia per year.
