CF Industries and POET partner on low-carbon ammonia supply

CF Industries and POET have agreed to develop and pilot the use of low-carbon ammonia fertilisers in corn production to reduce the carbon intensity of ethanol.

Green ammonia will be provided from CF Industries’ Donaldsonville Complex in Louisiana which recently installed a 20MW electrolyser, expected to start producing hydrogen imminently.

H2 View understands that producing ethanol with corn grown using low-carbon ammonia, can reduce the carbon intensity of ethanol by up to 10%. POET produces ethanol at its US facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana.

The partnership is targeting the end of this year for the first applications of low-carbon ammonia with subsequent applications next year (2025), to produce the first crop to be harvested by the fall of 2025.
