Ceres, JM CTOs: Govt support and SAF mandates crucial for hydrogen’s next phase

Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) and chemicals production will drive the immediate adoption of clean hydrogen as the industry faces wider delays in market development, say the Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) of Ceres and Johnson Matthey (JM).

The comments come during what both CTOs acknowledge has been a challenging year for the hydrogen sector, where projects have been scrapped, applications called into question and final investment decisions (FIDs) delayed.

But both Ceres’ Caroline Hargrove and JM’s Liz Rowsell remain confident that “optimistic shoots of growth” are starting to come through – with a need for industry to focus on the low-hanging fruit.
