To support the transition to a low-carbon transportation system, the Government of Canada has set sales target for new zero-emission vehicles in Canada including hydrogen powered cars.
The sales of zero-emission vehicles in Canada for the first six months of 2019 has risen 30% compared to 2018, representing an estimated reduction of up to 36,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
The milestone of more than 14,000 purchases or leases for zero emission vehicles to date is through the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles programme launched three months ago.
“The time to act on climate change is now. Over the past three months, the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles programme have made it easier for Canadians to be part of the solution to climate change while reducing their daily driving costs,” said Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport Canada.
