Californian labour unions call for $300m of state funding to build 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations

Six labour unions in California, US, have called on the state Governor and legislative leaders to allocate 30% of the state’s Clean Transportation Plan Funds to help build 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations.

With funding for the programme is currently up for renewal, the unions are calling for $300m of the fund over the next decade for hydrogen infrastructure development, representing around 30% of the total funds available.

The State Building Trades & Construction Council, California State Council of Laborers, District Council of Iron Workers, California-Nevada Conference of Operating Engineers, Boilermakers Local 549, California State Pipe Trades Council and the District Council of Iron Workers of California, said they would reject legislation to reauthorise funds for the programme unless hydrogen receives its “fair share” of state funding in a letter.
