bp to develop 2GW hydrogen project in Spain following FID

H2 View understands that bp’s 2GW hydrogen production project at the Castellon refinery has reached a final investment decision (FID).

The joint venture, dubbed HyVal which is being developed with Iberdrola, is set to produce green hydrogen in phased development up to 2GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, in the Valencia region.

bp will lead the public-private collaborative initiative, which is expected to become operational in 2027. The first phase of developments will see at least 200MW of electrolysis capacity installed at the refinery, producing up to 31,200 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
