Plans for bp’s Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub have been approved by the local planning committee, setting the project on the pathway to deliver first production from 2025.
The project, being delivered by bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Energy Limited (bpAHEL), a joint venture between bp and Aberdeen City Council, plans to produce over 800kg of green hydrogen per day, utilising solar power.
Set to be built on Hareness Road to the south of the Scottish city, the hydrogen production facility will be powered by a solar farm on a former landfill site, linked by an underground grid connection.
