Under new UK Government plans, British motorists will only be able to buy hydrogen or electric cars or vans in 15 years’ time.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is bringing forward a ban on selling new petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles in the UK to 2035 – five years earlier than planned – to ensure the UK meets its net zero 2050 target.
Announcing the news at the launch event for COP26 yesterday, Johnson said, “As we set out our plans to hit our ambitious 2050 net zero target across this year, so we shall urge others to join us in pledging net zero emissions.”
“There can be no greater responsibility than protecting our planet, and no mission that a Global Britain is prouder to serve.”
