BMW will launch a hydrogen FCEV in 2028 under Toyota collaboration

BMW plans to launch its first series production fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in 2028 as part of its collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation.

The two automotive giants will jointly develop the powertrain system for passenger vehicles, although customers can expect the FCEV models to maintain their distinct brand identities.

This work follows on from BMW’s iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet which was launched last year, powered by 125kW Toyota fuel cells. The 2028 series production models are expected to be integrated into BMW’s existing portfolio.
