Blue hydrogen has been identified as producing 20% more greenhouse gases than burning natural gas or coal for heat in a new report, highlighting the need to produce green hydrogen immediately.
When comparing blue and grey hydrogen to natural gas, diesel oil and coal burning, the results found that methane emissions from both grey and blue hydrogen are larger than any of the fossil fuels.
This revelation within the Energy Science & Engineering report is a signifier that green hydrogen needs to happen quicker with infrastructure and production needed to truly produce a zero emission fuel source.
