Industrial design services company Bertrandt is converting the powertrain of its Piaffio Ape two-stroke engine vehicle to an electric motor with hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Through the conversion to hydrogen, Bertrandt will benefit from longer driving ranges and short refuelling times whilst reducing the company’s CO2 emissions.
“We removed the internal combustion engine from a Piaggio Ape 50 and installed an electric drive system in its place,” said Philipp Zimmer, Team Manager of Hydrogen Technologies.
“In order to increase the range in battery operation, we integrated a range extender powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. This makes is possible to adapt the range as required depending on the volume of then hydrogen tank installed.”
