Avina Clean Hydrogen has broken ground on its green hydrogen production and refuelling facility in southern California, the US.
The facility is expected to produce up to 1,400 tonnes of compressed hydrogen per year once operational to serve the state’s transportation industry. The US-based firm secured the necessary permits to begin construction in September.

The City of Vernon and FASTECH have supported Avina in the development, construction and commissioning of the facility – located just 10 miles from the Port of Long Beach.
The plant’s strategic location allows Avina to “serve critical transportation corridors and urban markets,” according to Vishal Shah, the firm’s Founder and CEO, which could help “meet the growing demands for clean hydrogen across the region.”
Katrina Fritz, CEO of California Hydrogen Business Council, added, “This facility will serve the expanding end uses of hydrogen in California, such as zero-emission trucks and buses and distributed power generation to decarbonise and improve air quality in our local communities.”
With key environmental permits in place, H2 View understands the facility is on schedule to commence construction and begin commercial operations from July 2025.
