Australian Government backing renewable hydrogen and steel decarbonisation R&D with A$50m

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), on behalf of the Australian Government, has today (April 13) announced two A$25 ($16.8m) funding rounds for the R&D of renewable hydrogen and low-emissions iron and steel.

With grant funding for successful applicants expected to range between A$500,000 ($336,300) and A$5m ($3.3m), the hydrogen R&D round includes funding for two stream: improving and optimising renewable hydrogen production and derivatives; and investigating storage and distribution solutions.

Falling under the government’s Transformative Research Accelerating Commercialisation (TRAC) programme, the funding is hoped to support the commercialisation of renewable hydrogen.
