Australia must focus on hydrogen-powered transport or risk being left behind, says a new report by the country’s national science agency CSIRO and GHD Advisory.
While hydrogen can offer benefits such as fast refuelling times, greater range and higher vehicle payloads, the report highlights refuelling infrastructure as being a key challenge in the energy carrier’s success in the mobility sector.
The report says jurisdictions such as Germany, Japan, California, South Korea and China have been making firm progress on hydrogen mobility, with the regions claiming over 80% of the world’s total hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
