The Australian Government is providing an A$69.2m grant to help develop the Central Queensland Hydrogen Hub (CQ Hydrogen Hub) in Gladstone and doubling its investment in a critical minerals facility.
The CQ Hydrogen Hub aims to produce up to 292,000 tonnes of hydrogen a year by 2031 and create over 8,900 jobs in construction, trades and engineering.
Infrastructure building will also encompass a hydrogen electrolyser, pipeline and underground hydrogen storage. The hub infrastructure will help support hydrogen production and use in Australia and overseas. Construction will begin early next year, with operations targeted from mid-2027.
The consortium will be led by the Stanwell Corporation, with industry matching the Commonwealth’s contribution. This will bring total investment to ‘at least’ A$138m.
