Asda commits to a hydrogen fuelled future

UK-based supermarket chain Asda, a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart, will soon deploy hydrogen fuel cell solutions across its extensive supply chain network in an effort to reduce its carbon emissions, as part of an agreement with Plug Power.

Announced today, the purchase order agreement includes Plug Power’s full-service GenKey solution, including fuel cells, hydrogen fuelling equipment, hydrogen and service, with operations starting out at a facility in Skelmersdale, UK.

With the supermarket chain as a customer, Plug Power is continuing its European growth. The order represents the first deployment at scale of hydrogen fuel cell technology for material handling within the UK.
