Saudi oil and gas giant Aramco and ENOWA plan to construct a synthetic e-fuels plant to produce 35 barrels of NEOM renewable hydrogen-based synthetic gasoline per day.
Planned to be built at ENOWA’s Hydrogen Innovation and Development Center (HIDC) in NEOM, the plant will produce 12 tonnes of synthetic methanol per day from green hydrogen and CO2 using thyssenkrupp Uhde technology before conversion to e-gasoline using ExxonMobil’s fluidised-bed methanol-to-gasoline tech.
A 20MW thyssenkrupp nucera alkaline electrolyser – which will eventually make up part of the 2.2GW NEOM green hydrogen megaproject – will supply the eight tonnes of hydrogen needed for the demonstration plant.
