Within the next two decades, all road vehicles fuelled by petrol or diesel will be banned in the UK meaning all cars, vans, buses and trucks must be powered by zero-emission sources, such as hydrogen.
The UK became the first country in the world to commit to phasing out new heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) weighing 26 tonnes and under that are fuelled by petrol or diesel by 2035, with all new HGVs sold in the UK to be zero emission by 2040.
This follows almost exactly a year on the pledge the UK Government made in November 2020 to only sell zero-emission cars and vans from 2030.
