Belgian-based Agfa has today (March 8) announced it will make an investment for a new industrial unit to produce its Zirfon membranes for green hydrogen production.
Set to be installed in existing buildings at the company’s Mortsel, Belgium site, when completed the unit is expected to produce up to the equivalent of 20GW of electrolyser capacity per year.
Agfa’s Zirfon membranes can be used as an alternative to conventional membranes used in alkaline electrolysis. The company has said that with the Zirfon technology, electrolysers can produce up to four times more hydrogen than traditional technology.
