AEMC to explore natural hydrogen potential in Québec

Alaska Energy Metals (AEMC) will explore the potential of natural hydrogen deposits in Québec, Canada, at its Angliers-Belleterre land.

The company owns claims adjacent to hydrogen soil gas anomalies discovered by Québec Innovative Materials Corporation, which represented the potential for natural hydrogen deposits.

AEMC plans to collect approximately 400 soil gas samples across six lines on its claim block – five of these will be collected near the interpreted contact of Lake Timiskaming Basin with the Baby Greenstone Belt, where there may be a pathway to hydrogen.

H2 View understands that the accumulation of hydrogen in the basin is expected to occur from the serpentinization of iron-rich basement rocks of the Baby Greenstone Belt, which consists of serpentinite, komatiite, basalt, peridotite and iron formation.

AEMC’s Chief Geoscientist, Gabe Graf, explained that while the Angliers-Belleterre claims were initially focused on nickel-copper exploration, they are excited to learn of the hydrogen soil gas anomaly discovery by its neighbours.

“Both the industry and governments worldwide have shown a growing interest in natural hydrogen exploration, which may form an important part of the future energy mix,” he said.

“The formation of natural hydrogen requires the correct rock types and geologic processes to create the hydrogen gas, gas migration pathways, and geologic traps or reservoirs at which the gas may accumulate.”

“It appears we may have these features on our claims. Our planned work will help determine if there is indeed potential for natural hydrogen gas on our claims.”

In August, Max Power Mining secured permits for 1,244sq. km of land in the Canadian Saskatchewan province, where it discovered up to 96.4% hydrogen.
