Bankrupt Nikola Motors has reportedly recalled up to 95 of its Tre fuel cell electric (FCEV)-powered trucks, as wrong bolts could have been used to mount the hydrogen tank.
Its hydrogen-powered trucks have been recalled as the bolts may be too long and they could damage the tank – therefore increasing the risk of a hydrogen leak and, potentially, a fire.
Once returned, dealers will inspect and replace the bolts and the hydrogen tanks if necessary. Nikola will still cover the costs of the recalls despite being bankrupt.
Vehicle owners will be informed by March 15, 2025.
On February 19, the controversial US-based truck manufacturer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with approximately $47m in the bank.

The company attempted to raise capital earlier this year in a bid to avoid bankruptcy.
Nikola implemented cost-cutting and restructuring measures but ultimately failed to overcome the financial challenges.

The firm did explore the potential sale of parts or even the entirety of the business, according to reports last month (January).
Nikola has filed motions to maintain limited operations, including supporting existing trucks and HYLA fueling operations until the end of March 2025. But beyond that, external partners will be required.
The Board now intends to “market and sell all, substantially all, or a portion of its assets and effectuate an orderly wind-down of its businesses.”
