The US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Fossil Energy has announced up to $30m in federal funding for cost-shared research and development projects for small-scale solid oxide fuel cell systems and hybrid energy systems.
Through the funding opportunity announcement, the DOE hopes to develop advanced technologies that can progress small-scale solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) hybrid systems using solid oxide electrolyser cell technology to a point of commercial readiness for hydrogen production and power generation.
Commenting on the funding, Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette, said, “The Department of Energy plays an important role in advancing innovation to provide clean and reliable energy for American people.”
“The research of SOFC is intended to lower the cost of SOFC systems to a level where they are cost-competitive with alternative technologies with minimal subsidies.”
